Safeguarding democracy and human rights is more than a professional duty for me; it’s a lifelong commitment. Based on my 35 years of experience as a foreign service officer, I believe that above universal values are essential for building a more just, inclusive, and resilient world. This commitment has guided my work in public service for 57 years and continues to inspire me to uphold dignity, freedom, and equality for all.

I dedicate this book to all those who, even when freedom of writing was not available, have continued to advocate in various ways for the importance of democracy and human rights to the people, emphasizing that a nation cannot be built without these elements. This dedication also extends to all those who are currently carrying out the important duty of writing and expressing opinions in a responsible manner.
